International Association of Muslim University Professors announces publication of book entitled: 'Imam Khomeini's views on Education, Universities and responsibilities of Teachers and Academicians'.

While it is internationally well known that Imam Khomeini pioneered a new era in world politics, however, it is not widely appreciated that he was also a great academician. Though he was a theologian, he had unique, modern and revolutionary vision of education from primary school to higher education, role of universities and religious seminaries and responsibilities of teachers, university faculty members and scholars. His ten years of exceptional politico-academic leadership in building new Iran based on resistance against global hegemony and principles of Islamic teachings, transformed the entire education system of country after the success of Islamic Revolution in 1979.

The book is compilation of Imam Khomeini's (ra) speeches, messages, interviews, decrees, letters, and selected works related to Education at different levels, important role of educational institutions and pivotal role of teachers and academicians both from universities and religious institutions. It was originally published in Persian language and translated to English by The Institute for Compilation and Publication of Imam Khomeini’s Works.

After Iranian Islamic revolution, based on teachings and guidelines of Imam Khomeini, the curriculum of schools, colleges and universities was revised to be in line with the aims and objectives of Islamic government. The policies of the ministry of higher education, the ministry of education and training, the ministry of science and technology and the ministry of health were made based on the constitution of Islamic Republic of Iran. The book has eight sections comprising of Imam Khomeini’s views on: The Great Value of Knowledge in Islam, The Condition of Iranian Universities before Islamic Revolution, The Role of Universities in Cultural Revolution, The Mission of Universities, University Faculty Members in the views of Imam Khomeini, University Students in the views of Imam Khomeini, Pursuing Higher Education Abroad and finally Cooperation between Seminaries (Howzeh) and Universities.

IAOMUP hopes that this book will serve as a guideline for the academicians involved not only in teaching and training, but also policy making at national and international level.
